What it is?
Though medium-sized among cats, the Serval has disproportionately long legs and a small head with large ears. It uses its sensitive ears to find its prey, which it then incapacitates by pouncing on it, using its strong legs to launch over six feet into the air.
Key Benefits
- History: While rare in some regions, the Serval is common in much of Africa south of the Sahara Desert. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists it as a species of “Least Concern”. However, as their grassland habitat declines, the Serval could face a potential drop in population numbers.
- Scientific Name: Leptailurus serval
