Video review of Clips Animals by 678b36413e0e7844f3ea788d
The blue feigning beetle (Asbolus verrucosus), also known as the death-feigning beetle or desert ironclad beetle, is a tough little insect native to the deserts of the southwestern U.S., particularly in Arizona and California. It’s known for its waxy, blue-gray exoskeleton, which helps it retain moisture in arid environments. One of its most famous behaviors is thanatosis—playing dead—when threatened. However, these beetles don’t always feign death instantly. If they don’t feel truly threatened, they might just freeze or keep moving instead. Since you were holding it, it probably didn’t perceive you as a serious danger (or it was just feeling bold today!). They're also incredibly resilient, with their thick exoskeleton providing protection from predators and harsh desert conditions. Some can live up to 10 years, which is quite long for a beetle!
