What else you need to know
We are not superstitious, but... you never know. As the Italian playwright Eduardo De Filippo said: “Being superstitious is ignorant, but not being so is bad.”
The quote, “It’s not true... but I believe it,” perfectly captures the duality of superstition.
In many countries around the world, there are rituals to ward off bad luck—such as avoiding crossing paths with a black cat, wearing specific colors during important life moments, or carrying an amulet to keep negativity at bay.
Luck may be blind, but bad luck sees everything. For this reason, when someone is going through a rough time, the common question arises: “Don’t you have the (evil) eye on you?” This refers to the “Malocchio” (Evil Eye), a concept deeply rooted in superstition.
Fortunately, there is a remedy for this "jinx." A special kind of witch, with her mysterious rituals and incomprehensible chants—seemingly from ancient, unknown texts—can free you from negative energies. To keep bad vibes away permanently, however, one must have an amulet, known as "il corniciello" (a small red chili-shaped charm). Importantly, it must be received as a gift to activate its protective powers against bad energies.
