What it is?
Father's Day was inspired by Mother's Day and first celebrated in the United States on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. The idea was proposed by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single parent who raised six children on his own. Despite its early celebration, Father's Day didn't become an official national holiday until 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed it into law, designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.
