Gloria Vanderbilt is one of the most prominent design names in the United States, well-known for its high-end denim, jewelry, shoe and perfume lines. Gloria Vanderbilt was born in New York City to one of the country's most prestigious families in 1924. Her passion for art was cultivated in Paris after she moved with her mother to Europe following the death of her father, who had left her a multimillion-dollar trust fund. Vanderbilt worked as a fine artist for some years and began exhibiting her work in 1948. In 1968 she began designing greeting cards for Hallmark, and she also made designs for the textile manufacturer Bloomcraft.
