WE BELIEVE IN PERFUME'S ABILITY TO CONJURE UNSEEN WORLDS. The power of scent is equal to that of sight and sound. A great scent is a world you can return to over and over–a keyhole into another realm. You can travel via the mind-nose connection to larger collective spaces. D.S. & DURGA IS OUR UNIVERSE–all that we love in music, art, nature, and design told aromatically. Our scents are fragments of half-remembered myths and imaginary landscapes that invite exploration. They are an invisible soundtrack that you can carry on your body throughout the day. WE CREATE AUTHENTIC STUDIES of real world objects, plants, and places. We weave them into narratives that transport you to far off places, material and imaginary. OUR PERFUMES HAVE LINER NOTES. The stories and ramblings of D.S. are inside each box. The more you know, the deeper you explore the world in the bottle. Art is enriched by discussion and engagement. WE STARTED FROM SCRATCH and did it our way (more Sid than Sinatra). We were pioneers in DIY Brooklyn. We began by turning things we loved into scented stories of cowboys, open terrain, Russian novel characters, folk songs and packing them into stamped boxes in D.S.’s Bushwick apartment. These roots of detail and human hands are still strong today. ALL OF OUR CREATIVE COMES FROM WITHIN. That means D.S. is really the perfumer. He taught himself how to make perfume by immersing himself in all things fragrant. He is passionate about translating musical and literary spaces into scent. Each fragrance is conceived and constructed by D.S. with no middleman or interpretation from an outside perfumer. KAVI (A.K.A. DURGA) DESIGNS EVERYTHING. She approaches her work like an architect–her trade by training. Thinking in angles, light, shadow, and texture, Kavi seeks clarity in form and function. She builds buildings for our scents, cities for our universe. WE TAKE OUR WORK SERIOUSLY, but not too seriously. If you can’t have fun doing what you dig, what’s the point? OUR PACKAGE IS A PIECE. The opening establishes the relationship between user and perfume. Our boxes have been engineered to be foam-free, recyclable paper, and our shipping materials are biodegradable. The formulas are 100% vegan. D.S. SOURCES INGREDIENTS from all over, cherry picking the best of this and the most useful of that. The art of perfume is more about how you use your items, not just their quality. Off-notes, unexpected combinations, and novel constructions are the core of our aromatic vision.
