In early February 2024, a 22-year-old Polish climber experienced a harrowing accident at an indoor climbing gym in Bytom, Poland. While preparing to ascend a 50-foot speed climbing wall, he neglected to clip into the auto-belay system—a critical safety mechanism designed to arrest falls. Unaware of this oversight, he proceeded to climb and, upon reaching the top, pushed off the wall expecting the auto-belay to lower him safely. Tragically, without being secured, he plummeted the entire height to the gym floor below.
