I spoke about this a little recently but more and more running experts are talking about how runners should be lifting heavy weights It s not year round all the time but often as you get later in your season you need your lifting sessions to be short yet effective so you don t fatigue yourself for your runs Heavy weights for low reps give you your biggest power output and teach your body to recruit muscle fibers which in turn can help your running economy Now there is periodization and nuance where you still want some body weight ploys accessory movements etc BUT a stronger runner is a healthy and efficient runner Now on the other side I m in no way advocating for someone to try to bench 300lbs or become a powerlifter to be a better runner
