Pacific Lamprey - they are parasitic on other fish and marine mammals but they often don’t kill their host. Lampreys use their suction mouth to suck out all the blood and fluids until they are full. You probably won’t see them - they swim deep and offshore. They are preferred by predators because of their high fat and caloric count. Pacific lamprey are incredibly important to Native American tribes - they have been using these for food by drying and roasting them. The oil can be used as medicine and for hair. Lamprey have been around forever - surviving ice ages and mass extinctions. They have an eye sensor on the top of their head to sense light and dark. We go see them at Bonneville Fish Hatchety in Cascade Locks, OR #lamprey #oregon #cascadelocks@real_dallas_little
