It was the year 2020. We thought it was a routine normal pregnancy. No one caught the signs in the ultrasound and when we went in for a “standard labor and delivery” we ended up transferred to a specialized NICU and didn’t come home for 63 days. This was all in the middle of COVID. The condition is called Sticklers Syndrome but the more concerning part was Pierre Robin Sequence which is an underdeveloped jaw that leads to a breathing/airway danger in babies. PRS is notoriously missed in ultrasounds so it is frequently a surprise to parents, as it was to us.
